Lash lift vs lash extensions: how to choose
Lash lift vs lash extensions compared on look, upkeep, time and risk, plus what a Korean lash lift and brow lamination are. We offer the lift, not extensions.
Lashes and brows
Lash lift vs lash extensions comes down to this: a lift works with the lashes you have, lasts six to eight weeks and asks almost nothing of you afterwards; extensions add length and volume you do not have, look fuller, and need refills every two to three weeks and careful daily handling. If you want to wake up looking like you have mascara on, choose the lift. If you want lashes that are clearly longer and thicker than your own and you are happy with the upkeep, extensions do that. Hamd Beauty offers the lift and tint at home. We do not offer extensions, and this page says why as honestly as it says what they are.
What each one is
A lash lift curls your own natural lashes from the root, using a silicone shield and two setting solutions, and usually tints them dark at the same time. Nothing is added or glued. It takes about an hour with us and lasts one growth cycle, six to eight weeks. Our guide on how long a lash lift lasts covers the treatment and the first 48 hours.
Lash extensions are individual synthetic fibres glued one by one, or in small fans, onto each of your natural lashes with a lash adhesive. A full set takes around two hours or more, and because your own lashes shed continuously, the set thins over two to three weeks and needs a refill to stay full. They are removed with a solvent by a technician, never pulled.

Who suits which
Choose a lift if your lashes are straight or point downwards, if you have a reasonable length already, if you swim or sweat, if you want to forget about your lashes for two months, or if you have found extensions irritating. A lift is also the safer choice in the weeks before a wedding, because there is nothing to shed or lose on the day.
Choose extensions if your lashes are short or sparse and a lift would have little to work with, if you want a visibly fuller look for a period of weeks, and if you can commit to the refills and the daily care. Extensions are done by a lash technician, ideally in a studio set up for it, with a patch test of the adhesive beforehand.
Do not combine them on the same lashes. A lift on lashes that have just had extensions removed usually needs to wait until they have recovered.
Are extensions safe?
The American Academy of Ophthalmology lists the risks of eyelash extensions as trauma to or infection of the eyelid or cornea, allergic reaction to the glue, and permanent or temporary loss of eyelashes. It notes that some glues in the past have contained the allergen formaldehyde, that infection can come from inadequate hygiene in the shop or from damage to the eye during application, and it suggests asking what training, certification and experience the aesthetician has. If you have an allergic reaction to extensions, its advice is not to remove them yourself but to see an ophthalmologist immediately.
None of that means extensions are wrong for you. It means they are a treatment to have from someone trained for them, in a clean setting, with a patch test, and to stop at once if your eyes react. This is general information, not medical advice; ask your doctor if you have an eye condition or a history of reactions.
The names you will meet
Korean lash lift. A lash lift done with smaller, more graduated shields so the lashes are lifted from the root with a softer, more open curve, rather than curled tightly. The solutions are the same; the shape is the difference. The glossary covers the Korean lash lift.
Lash lamination, lash perm, keratin lash lift. The same treatment under different names. "Perm" is the older word; "lamination" usually means a nourishing step is added at the end; "keratin" means that step uses a keratin product. What matters is the chemistry, the timing and the shield, not the name on the menu.
Brow lamination. The brow version of a lift. The brow hairs are softened, brushed up into place and set, so they stay fuller-looking and in place for four to six weeks; a tint is often added. It suits sparse or unruly brows. Hamd Beauty does not offer brow lamination; we shape brows by threading. The glossary explains brow lamination.
Why we offer the lift and not extensions
A lash lift takes an hour, works with what you have and leaves nothing behind. Extensions are a repeating commitment, they need a technician who does nothing else, and the risks the ophthalmologists describe come mostly from the glue, the weight and the hygiene of the setting. We would rather do one lash treatment well at home than a second one less well. If extensions are what you want, we will say so and you should find a dedicated lash technician; if a lift will give you what you are after, we can come to you.
