Jagua
Also called: Jagua gel and Jagua henna
A plant-based gel from the juice of a South American fruit that stains the skin a blue black, used as a temporary tattoo and as a safer alternative to black henna.
Jagua is made from the juice of the genipa fruit, thickened into a gel and applied from a cone or bottle like henna. It goes on clear or grey, is left for one to two hours and washed off, and the stain then develops over a day or two into a dark blue black. It lasts around one to two weeks and fades as the skin renews.
It is the honest way to get a dark design. Products sold as jagua henna blend the two so the colour sits between henna's red brown and jagua's blue black. The developed stain looks like a real tattoo.
Jagua is natural but not harmless for everyone: some people react to it, especially those with certain fruit allergies, so a patch test a day before is sensible, and it should not be used on a child without asking a doctor. Read the label, since some gels sold as jagua contain added dyes. This is general information, not medical advice.
Hamd Beauty does not offer jagua. Its henna is natural henna, in red brown.
We do not offer this at present. It is explained here because people ask about it.
