Single-use
Also called: Disposable and One-client items
An item used for one client only and then discarded, because it cannot be cleaned and sterilised properly: files, buffers, wax strips, spatulas, mascara wands and the like.
Some beauty tools can be washed and sterilised between clients: metal nippers, scissors, pushers, tweezers. Others cannot. Porous or fibrous items such as emery boards, buffers, orange sticks, wax strips, wooden spatulas, mascara wands, lip applicators, sponges, pedicure tub liners and toe separators trap skin, product and moisture that no cleaning reaches. Threading thread, henna cones, gloves, neck strips and cape liners are in the same group. The only safe practice is to use them once and throw them away.
What to look for: the item comes out of a sealed pack or a fresh box in front of you, it is not taken from a drawer of loose used pieces, and it goes in the bin at the end of your visit rather than back into the kit. A used file with dust in it, or a spatula returned to the wax pot, is the sign of a corner cut.
At Hamd Beauty each service lists its single-use items. They are opened where you can see and discarded when your visit ends.
