Heel care
Also called: Heel smoothing and Foot filing
The part of a pedicure that softens, files and moisturises hard, dry or cracked skin on the heels.
Heel care is the step in a pedicure that deals with the skin rather than the nails. After a warm soak, the therapist uses a foot file to reduce hard skin on the heels and the ball of the foot, buffs the surface smooth and works in a rich cream during the massage. Cracks close more easily once the thick edges around them have been thinned.
It takes ten to fifteen minutes within a pedicure and the smoothness lasts a week or two, longer if you moisturise at night and wear closed shoes on long days. Dubai's dry heat and open sandals bring hard heels back quickly, so many women book a pedicure every three to four weeks for this alone.
Heel care is included in the Hamd Beauty classic and gel pedicure; the therapist uses a fresh file for each client and no blades. Deep cracks that bleed, very painful heels, or hard skin with diabetes or poor circulation belong with a doctor or podiatrist. This is general information, not medical advice.
