Swedish massage
Also called: Classic massage
The classic Western massage technique of long gliding strokes, kneading, friction and light tapping with oil, at light to medium pressure.
Swedish massage is the technique most relaxing massages are built on. Its five movements are effleurage (long gliding strokes toward the heart), petrissage (kneading and lifting the muscle), friction (small circles with the fingers or thumbs), tapotement (light rhythmic tapping) and vibration. The therapist uses oil so her hands slide, and works the whole body in sequence.
Pressure is light to medium, which is what separates it from deep tissue work. A session is usually sixty to ninety minutes. It suits a first massage, general tension and anyone who wants to feel loosened rather than worked on. The same cautions as any massage apply: not with a fever, skin infection or recent injury, and ask your doctor if you are pregnant or have a medical condition. This is general information, not medical advice.
Hamd Beauty does not list a massage under the Swedish name. Its relaxing massage is a full body massage at light to medium pressure, which is the ground Swedish technique covers; ask for it when you book.
