Blow-dry
Also called: Blowout and Wash and blow
Drying freshly washed hair with a hairdryer and a round brush to set it smooth, wavy or full, so the shape holds for a few days.
A blow-dry shapes clean, damp hair with heat. The stylist sections the hair, applies a heat protectant, then dries each section over a round brush, pulling it straight for a smooth finish, turning the brush for bounce and waves, or lifting at the root for volume. A cool blast at the end sets the shape.
Allow about 45 minutes; thick or very long hair takes longer. A blow-dry usually lasts two to three days, and on smooth hair sometimes longer. Humidity, sweat and sleeping on it shorten the life; a silk scarf at night, dry shampoo at the roots and keeping the hair away from steam stretch it.
Hamd Beauty offers a blow-dry at home and includes one at the end of its repair treatment. Wash your hair before the therapist arrives, and leave it towel dried rather than dripping. Tell her whether you want it smooth, wavy or full, and show a picture if you have one.
