Updo
Also called: Upstyle and Chignon or bun
Any hairstyle where the hair is gathered and pinned up off the neck: a bun, chignon, twist or braided crown.
An updo lifts the hair away from the neck and shoulders and pins it in place. The classic forms are a low chignon at the nape, a high bun, a French twist, a braided crown and the softer, looser styles with face framing pieces. The stylist usually adds texture first, curling or teasing, so the hair has grip, then builds the shape section by section with pins and a light spray.
Allow an hour or more. A firm updo holds all evening and under a veil or headscarf; it is the most reliable style for humidity and for dancing. Shoulder length hair is enough for most shapes, and extension pieces can be added for a fuller bun. Very silky, freshly washed hair slips, so second day hair is easier to work with.
Hamd Beauty styles updos within its event hairstyle and bridal hair services. Bring the outfit, earrings and any headpiece to the appointment so the height and placement can be judged against them.
