Deep conditioning mask
Also called: Hair mask and Cream bath
A rich conditioning treatment left on the hair for ten to thirty minutes, often with heat, to put moisture and softness back into dry or damaged hair.
A deep conditioning mask is a thicker, richer version of everyday conditioner. It is applied to washed hair from mid length to the ends, sometimes combed through and wrapped in a warm towel or cap so the heat opens the hair and lets the mask sink in. After ten to thirty minutes it is rinsed and the hair is blow-dried.
Masks work on the outside of the hair: they smooth the cuticle, add slip and shine and reduce frizz for a few washes. They do not repair a split end, which can only be cut, and they do not change a chemically damaged strand permanently. Very fine hair can feel heavy if the mask is applied at the roots, so it is usually kept to the lengths.
The Hamd Beauty repair treatment is a deep conditioning mask with a scalp massage and a blow-dry, done at home. It suits hair that is dry from sun, sea, chlorine, colour or heat styling. If your scalp is itchy, flaking or sore, ask your doctor rather than a mask.
